CK vs OV Match Prediction & Analysis

Only one game remains to be played in the Super Smash and the playoff fixtures still look far from settled. Wellington Firebirds are currently placed at the top of the table and might get displaced by Otago Volts in the upcoming fixture. Although it appears to be a steep ask and it will be a mircale if they qualify, the Kings are still in with an outside chance to qualify for the playoffs, provided they beat Volts by a considerable margin. The match between Otago Volts and Canterbury Kings is to be played on 14th January at Hagley Oval. While the match is of little significance as any change in the top-four teams seem to be improbable, both the sides are still likely to come all guns blazing and we expect a cracking contest on Tuesday.

Team Previews

Canterbury Kings

With a vital win over Wellington Firebirds, the Kings appeared to be in perfect position to qualify for the playoffs, but a loss to Northern Knights spoiled their chances. They are currently placed at the bottom of the points table and only a win of miraculous would take them to the playoffs. Their poor net run-rate of -0.281 will become a decisive factor if they manage to win their upcoming match to take their tally to 18points.

After a surprise win over the best team in the tournament, Canterbury Kings failed to keep the momentum going and lost against Northern Knights. The most probably outcome of Canterbury's win in the upcoming match, if they do win, would be that they'd end up avoiding the wooden spoon.

In their previous match, their batsmen failed to put up a reasonable total on the board and that turned out ot be the difference between the two sides. Batting first on a pretty good surface to bat on, the Kings could put up a total on only 154 runs on the board, the total which was chased pretty comfortably by the Districts. The Kings bowlers tried hard and kept the Knights' scoring rate in check, but the total they needed to chase was so manageable that the Knights' batsmen never had to worry.

Canterbury Kings Playing 11

Chad Bowes, Jack Boyle, Henry Nicholls, Cole McConchie, Leo Carter, Cameron Fletcher, Andrew Ellis, Henry Burton Shipley, TD Astle, Will Williams, Ed Nuttall.

Otago Volts

The battle for the top-spot between Otago Volts and Wellington Firebirds has been in the tournament so far and will be decided by the result in Otago's last league game. Currently, the Volts are placed at the second spot on the ladder and have five wins to their name in nine matches. They have 22 points with a net run-rate of 0.595 and a win here will push them aboe Wellington Firebirds, to the top of the table.

While the Volts have been one of the best sides in the tournament, they haven't really been in good touch in their last three matches. They have won just one match of their last three and with semi-finals round the corner, they'll be looking to get the momentum going for them. Having said that, they registered a terrific win over Central Stags in their last match and that should imbibe them with a lot of confidence.

Their bowlers bowled beautifully to keep Stags down to just 136, which the Volts won with the loss of just one wicket. Michael Roppon and Anaru Kitchen were the pick of their bowlers as they picked up three wickets between them and gave away just 46 runs in the process. While the total could have been a bit challenging to chase down, especially on a surface that had a bit of assistance for the slower bowlers, the Otago Volts' batsmen never looked troubled. Hamish Rutherford, in particular, was brilliant as he smashed 81 runs off just 54 deliveries to guide Volts to a nine-wicket win.

Otago Volts Playing 11

Hamish Rutherford, NT Broom, Mitchell Renwick, Nick Kelly, Dean Foxcroft, Anaru Kitchen, Joshua Finnie, MJ Rippon, Jacob Duffy, Matthew Bacon, Michael Rae.

CK vs OV Betting Tips

Even though this match is of little significance for the Volts, they would certainly like to close their league-stage campaign with a win and finish at the top of the table. For the Kings, they have an outside chance to qualify for the playoffs, but that only seems to be possible on paper. Both the sides haven't had a good run in their last three matches and will be looking to finish the league-stage on a high. Considering the team balance of both the sides and their form in the tournament, the Volts are firm favorites to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
